It takes the complexity and cost of network-attached storage and SANs and basically shakes them off. You can get many disks together and be flexible in carving them up where extra space is needed.
- DirectAccess: A VPN without the pain of a VPN DirectAccess enables a secure VPN-like tunnel from either endpoint back to the corporate network, without the overhead and performance impact of a true VPN. There is also no managing agent on the client. When the technology is set up correctly, it works – users have always-on connectivity to file shares, on-premises computers, and other resources just as if they were on the corporate campus. In addition, Group Policy Objects are enforced and administrators can manage machines wherever they are, not just when they arrive at the site or connect to the VPN. This technology had been difficult to establish, but in Windows Server 2012, it largely works.
